Leading Croydon employer Direct Line will once open its telephone lines to take pledges from the public for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day this coming Friday, 11 March 2005.

All the regional offices will participate with more than 700 staff in Croydon, Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow having volunteered.

Of these, 150 staff will be in Croydon with the phone lines open from 7pm until 12 midnight this Friday evening. This is the third time that Direct Line has supported Comic Relief; in 2003 Direct Line took pledges for an amazing £866k.

Amongst those taking pledges will be Direct Line Managing Director Graham Ross and Commercial Director Stephen Treloar.

Croydon's MP Geraint Davies will also be showing his support by taking calls at the Direct Line offices on Edridge Road along with the Direct Line staff.

Labour MP for Croydon Central, Geraint Davies, said:

"I am delighted to be supporting Comic Relief in Croydon. I'm looking forward to sharing a few jokes with the Direct Line employees and wearing my red nose."

Graham Ross, Direct Line Managing Director said:

"Direct Line is a keen supporter of Comic Relief and I am delighted that so many of our staff have agreed to give up their Friday night to help out with this fantastic charity.

"Direct Line is now 20 years old and over the years has supported many of the local charities such as the East Park Home for Children, Friends of Mayday and those on a national level such as Comic Relief, Bliss and the SSPCA."
