Student Travel Insurance
Many students go travelling on a budget and don’t want to waste what little money they do have on a travel insurance policy. But it’s important to be insured, especially if you’re thinking of going off the beaten track. That’s why Direct Line have come up with a great offer to make sure you don’t leave without cover.
Direct Line Discoverer travel insurance is designed especially for backpackers who want to explore the world. Discoverer is a 12-month policy within Europe adn an 18 month policy worldwide (perfect for students on a gap year) that covers up to £1,000 per person in personal possessions (subject to a single item limit of £250) and up to £500 per person in money. In addition, it offers up to £5 million cover for medical and emergency expenses abroad, legal expenses up to £50,000 per person and up to £3,000 for cancellation or curtailment of a trip.
But Direct Line’s Discoverer policy also takes into account certain aspects of travel that are more likely to apply to student travel. For example, if you are travelling to or from Australia, Africa or Asia and decide to break your journey by stopping over in other countries, you will be covered for up to 14 days’ stay. Furthermore, should your return journey be extended beyond the final day of your insurance period, you will still be covered for seven days if there is a transport delay or up to 30 days (or possibly even more in some circumstances) if you fall ill or are injured.
For those who want an action-packed time, the Discoverer policy also covers for range of adventure sports and experiences. Fancy giving scuba diving a try? We cover for dives of up to 18 metres. Want to canoe or kayak your way around the world? With Direct Line you can do it with peace of mind – you can even raft down the river to grade 3! From bungee jumping to surfing to elephant trekking you’ll find a full list of insured activities on your policy.
Direct Line also operates a medical and non-medical emergency hotline for 24-hour assistance while you are abroad. Check your policy document and you’ll find all the details on cut-out-and-keep cards, so you always have the details to hand.
